Hi there! I’m Ashlyn with Fixed Fee IT. Welcome back to our series on everything you need to know about SharePoint. Today, we’re walking through how to search for files in SharePoint. If you’re looking for a specific section of this tutorial, hover over the progress bar and select the part you need. Otherwise, let’s get started.

How to Search in SharePoint

To begin, we’re going to hop right into the SharePoint site we’re searching in. You can’t search for something in a different site than the one you’re already in, so confirm you’re in the correct site before searching. If you aren’t sure which site it’s in, you can also search your entire SharePoint, but that could mean A LOT more search results.

At the top of the screen, you’ll see the search bar. I want to find my test document, so we’re going to search for “Test. SharePoint will then pull up any folder or document including the word “Test”. It will also search within documents for the search term. Just to note: some pdfs are searchable if they’ve been scanned a certain way, but not all are.

And that’s all I have for you in this section. Now you should be able to search in SharePoint. Check out our other SharePoint tutorials in our playlist. If you still have questions, feel free to reach out to our team at Fixed Fee IT. Thanks for watching!
